Custom Plastic PC (Polycarbonate) Thermoforming service

PC material is tough, lightweight and of excellent thermoforming capability. It is one of the most durable transparent plastic material, making a an excellent in application of protection. MDE Plastics provides vacuum formig service with PC (Polycarbonate) sheets.

PC sheets for thermoforming

PC sheet, is extruded with a type of thermoplastic polymers called Polycarbonate. It is of great high impact resistance, almost unbreakable compared with other clear plastic and glass. It has high clarity and great light transmission rate. It is also quite suitable for thermoforming into various shapes, or heat bending.

PC Thermoforming: An Overview

PC (Polycarbonate) thermoforming is a widely applied plastic molding process. It involves heating a flat sheet of PC material to a certain temperature and then shaping it into a desired three-dimensional products by using a vacuum forming mold.

Benefits of PC Thermoforming

1. Durability and Impact Resistance:

One of the primary benefits of using PC in thermoforming is its high level of durability and impact resistance. This is suitable for creating products that are exposed to harsh conditions. For example, some medical equipment need to withstand repeated sterilization. And police shield need to bear fierce attack.

2. High Heat Resistance:

PC also has a high heat resistance, ideal for manufacturing products, which will be exposed to high temperatures, transparent window canopy awing.

3. Versatility:

PC can be formed into a wide range of shapes, colors, thickness. It has a wide applications as other thermoplastic material, although its cost a little higher. It is usually chosen for high-end plastic applications.

4. Transparency:

PC is also widely known for its clarity, making it ideal for creating clear custom machine covers, domes, lights covers and so on. It is almost equal to PMMA in terms of light transmission rate.

5. Lightweight:

Despite its strength and durability, PC is a relatively lightweight material, making it easy to handle and transport, which can help to reduce costs. Tough while lighter than glass.

Process of PC Thermoforming

The process of PC thermoforming involves several steps, including the following:

  • Preheating: The first step in the process is to preheat the flat sheet of PC material to a temperature of around 320°F (160°C), until it becomes pliable.
  • Vacuum Forming: Once the material has been heated, it is placed over a mold and a vacuum is applied, which removes any air pockets and helps the material to conform to the shape of the mold.
  • Cooling: Once the material has been formed to the desired shape, it is allowed to cool, which helps to maintain the shape and ensure that the product is stable and durable.
  • Trimming: Once the product has cooled, any excess material is trimmed away, and the final product is removed from the mold.
