The following are some common standards for UV testing of plastics:
International Standard
ISO 4892-3: This standard is the International Organization for Standardization’s standard for UV aging test for plastic materials and is applicable to the weathering evaluation of all types of plastic commodities. It specifies the requirements for test equipment, test conditions, specimen preparation and evaluation methods to assess the reliability and durability of plastic materials and products in outdoor environments.
ASTM G154: ASTM G154: A standard for light accelerated weathering testing of plastic materials developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), which provides a series of test conditions and procedures that can be used to evaluate the weathering performance of plastic materials under ultraviolet light irradiation.
Chinese National Standard
GB/T 16422.2: This is a Chinese standard on accelerated weathering test requirements for plastics under light radiation. It specifies a laboratory light exposure test method for plastics to ensure that the products comply with the national regulations, and can be used to evaluate the weathering resistance of plastic materials.
GB/T 14522-93: It is applicable to the weathering test of various plastic materials, and can be used to evaluate their service life in outdoor environment.
China Plastic Industry Standard
GB/T 24149.3-2017: Standard for polypropylene (PP) specialties for plastic automobiles, part 3, door interior panels, which may involve requirements related to UV resistance testing of plastics to ensure the weather resistance and appearance stability of plastic components such as automotive interior parts during use.
GB/T 40006.3-2021: Standard for recycled plastics, part 3, polypropylene (PP) materials, which regulates the properties of recycled plastics, including UV resistance, in order to promote the rational use of recycled plastics and quality control.
GB/T 39937-2021: Requirements and Test Methods for Polypropylene (PP) Extruded Plastic Sheets for Plastic Products specifies the performance indexes and test methods for PP extruded plastic sheets, among which the UV resistance is one of the important assessment contents to ensure the durability of the sheets for outdoor use.
