Similarity of PETG and ABS sheet
Let’s compare PETG plastic and ABS plastic sheets. Both PETG and ABS plastic sheets have excellent mechanical and physical properties. They are rigid thermoplastic engineering plastics. Both are widely used in our society nowadays.
Both have good machining and thermoforming capacities. PETG and ABS plastic boards can be machined by CNC, laser and saw. Both can be vacuum formed, pressed formed with tooling mold.
Difference of PETG and ABS sheet
Difference in appearance
However, PETG and ABS sheets have distinctive difference. Firstly, In most circumstance, ABS is not clear nor transparent. PETG is translucent in natural condition. Although both plastics can customized into different colors, colored PETG surface is more gloss, compared with that of ABS surface. In actually applications, when using clear plastic sheet, in covering, shield, or blister packaging, PETG material is the first choice.
Difference in chemical and physical stability
Second difference lies within their anti-aging and solvent-resistant capabilities. In long-term use, PETG is more durable and chemical and physical stability. ABS sheet is more easy to become yellowish, and easy to crack, in out door use. Its component of AS of SBS account for this issue.
Difference in flexural strength
Thirdly, PETG excels better in resilience and flexibility. Of the same size, PETG sheeting has better flexural strength.
Difference in Applications
PETG sheets or film rolls are formed in to blister packages or decorative panels. ABS sheets are normally constructed into protective covers, functional panels, for machine.
Difference in thickness
PETG can be extruded in to very small thickness film, such as 0.5mm or even below. However, ABS sheet normally has thickness like 1mm or above, through extrusion.
In a word, ABS and PETG plastic sheets are two distinctive types of plastic material, with quite different application fields, although they have some in common.
